A descendant of Hallertau Mittelfrüh, New Zealand Kohatu hops are a very new variety with mid-range alpha and moderate amounts of aromatic oils. It works well in single hop applications and is described as having intense tropical fruit characteristics. With characteristic tropical character but comparatively subtle profile for a Southern Hemisphere hop, Kohatu is a welcome addition to Belgian ales, wheat beer, or blonde ales where an “over the top” hop quality may not be desired. Kohatu can also be used as part of a blend with more intense varieties for New Zealand-style IPA. It features bright lime and pineapple notes with traces of pine. And it can exhibit a “dank” undertone desirable for some American craft styles. 1 oz.
