I brewed this with sweet potatoes. Bake 2lbs of sweet potato, smash in a bowl with a potato masher, add to kettle with grains for the mash. You'll want to put it in a sleeve for easy removal and I tea-bagged the sleeve and squeezed it with a spoon multiple times to get good particulate into the wort. I left it in until the wort was up to a boil, then removed.
