Notes

Entered in MN State Fair 2019 in the Specialty Smoked Beer category. Scored a 41 and got third place. Notes mentioned that this was missing yeast esters. Wood blend was oak/hickory. This was smoky enough for the style but could've probably used a bit more smoke - in judging it lost to two rauchbiers, which I'm sure made this seem almost smokeless in comparison.

Also entered in 2019 Minnesota Mashout, where it got a 30. One judge complained that it didn't have enough watermelon flavor. The other judge thought that the watermelon flavor clashed with the sour and smoke, and said there was a plastic/sawdust character (which he guessed incorrectly was from high fermentation temps).
